This photo serves as a reminder of a world tragedy that started with a brutal terrorist attack by Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023, exactly one week earlier. The Magellan Explorer had been chartered for a photography tour to South Georgia Island during the same two weeks as our charter. The majority of participants from Israel could not, or would not, keep their travel plans. The remainder, less than 20, joined our group on the Sea Spirit. This brought our number close to, but still under 100, the "magic number" allowed at any one time for the landing sites on South Georgia Island.
