Our first stop was in Wisconsin, east of the Duluth/Superior harbor, formed by a long, natural sand dune at the mouth of the St. Louis River where it enters Lake Superior. The harbor is at the state border between Minnesota and Wisconsin, so two cities and two states share a major international port for ships that arrive via the Great Lakes waterways.
