The hikers' Haute Route (also known as the High Route or Mountaineers' Route) refers to a traverse through the Alps on trails from Chamonix in France to Zermatt in Switzerland. Wilderness Travel offers several different Haute Route itineraries, and the one I signed up for was designated as the "Classic Haute Route" (renamed the "Ultimate Haute Route" for the 2023 season). This map shows one variation of the Haute Route in blue; the hikes I completed with our group are overlaid in red. Our hikes totaled about 75 miles compared to approximately 115 miles in the Haute Route shown in blue. We enjoyed spectacular vistas and plenty of alpine terrain challenges along the way!
