Montgomery Reef
On the afternoon of April 17, we enjoyed an excursion to Montgomery Reef, off the Kimberley coast. This reef surrounds an island, is approximately 150 square miles in total area, and experiences a tidal "range" of up to 33 feet! When the tide goes out, the torrent of water off the reef creates a "river" cutting through the reef, fed by hundreds of cascading waterfalls. This photo shows a freshly exposed surface of the reef as the tide starts to go out.
