New River Gorge National Park and Preserve Visitor Center

The New River is actually one of the oldest rivers in the world (where existence in past times can be assessed). The river cuts through the Appalachian Plateau and predates the uplift that formed the Appalachian Mountains. Some of the exposed rocks are as old as 330 million years.
